The Coos Bay Boat Building Center (CBBBC) had the final inspection for renovation of the building. The CBBBC is now open to hold classes. Registration for Winter Term classes will be Saturday, January 7th, 2012 from 11:00AM - 3PM at the Coos Bay Boat Building Center at 100 Newmark in Empire. After January 7th, please call the Coos Bay Boat Building Center at 541-808-2211 or Tom Leahy at 541-217-4365 to request information on how to register. We expect to have our class registrations online in the very near future.
The CBBBC is located just below the Hollering Place Overlook and North of the boat ramp in the Empire district of Coos Bay, Oregon. Look for the big red building.
The CBBBC was funded by the City of Coos Bay's Urban Renewal Agency, property owner Doug Devine, Charter members and members of the CBBBC and many, many private donations from organizations, agencies and individuals.
How to build a Cedar Strip Canoe will start January 14th. Other classes to be held this Winter include: Building A Tool Chest, Empire Lakes Canoe, How To Build A Kayak, How To Use Power Tools, Ship Modeling, Canoeing Instruction and Seat Caning.
Examples of additional classes include: Tools For Boat Building, Sailing Classes, Knot Tying, Scrimshaw Carving and Finishing My Boat Project.
The community can anticipate some other very exciting large projects in the renovation of boats that have deep historical significance with our maritime past.
Lectures will also be given on Scrimshaw, The Schooners of Coos Bay and How To Experience Sailing On A Tall Ship. Dates will bee announced soon.
Abundant volunteer opportunities are available at the CBBBC, too. Those interested in helping in our gift shop, tool and shop maintenance, instruction, lectures, class helpers, greeters, clerical services, supporting classes and more are also invited to come during registration from Jan. 7th from 11AM.
